The Effects of Therapeutic Songwriting on Self-identity and Self-esteem of High School Special Class Adolescents

Abstract
This study were to design therapeutic songwriting based on Korean popular music, and to examine the effects of therapeutic songwriting on high school special class adolescents¡¯ self-identity and self-esteem. The participants recruited for this study were 14 adolescents attending special class at S High School located in Gyeonggi Province. As a result, therapeutic songwriting activity has significantly improved the adolescents¡¯ self-identity and self-esteem. This study is meaningful in the sense therapeutic songwriting activity works as an emotional intervention for the adolescents. At the same time, therapeutic songwriting contributes to their emotional improvement as a psychologically supportive intervention for high school special class adolescents.
